Start With Art!

Posted by: nancywogan on December 3rd, 2007

Interior Designer Suzanne Gallagher wrote a book “The Fine Art of Wall Design”, where she emphasizes that for any design job one should always Start with Art.
Don’t we all agree with her? Art is something very personal, so when you start with something you’ve fallen in love with, it is easier to design the room around it to compliment the art piece, then the other way around.
She also gives great framing tips and much more. If you are interested in her book, just let me know and I’ll help you order it from her.

Excerpts from her website:

Do you know where to start when tackling an interior decorating project? It can be a challenge.

Don’t design your room around the sofa… Start with Art!

Art and Corporate Image

Posted by: Phil Seder on July 16th, 2007

What is your corporate image? Look around you and you’ll see that the biggest, most successful companies put significant time, attention and money into establishing and maintaining their image. Invariably, that means not just public relations and corporate “spin,” but also the architecture and art that the corporation owns and displays. Walk into the lobby of just about any corporation and you will immediately get a sense of who they are – their sense of style, taste and sophistication. The appearance of a corporate lobby is like a business handshake and the message can range between “we’re a bunch of yahoos” or “we’re a company you want to be doing business with.”

Buying and selecting your corporate art presents a challenge. It’s hard enough deciding what you want to do with your own walls at home. It can be downright intimidating buying when you are representing a whole company. A myriad of questions arise: is this for beautification or investment? What should my art say about the company? Is abstract or realistic the way to go? What should I be paying for art? The list goes on and on.
Having spent many years working in both the art world and the business world, I have some thoughts that can help you on your way to satisfying corporate art purchases.

Art Quotes

“MEANING”

The painting rises from the brushstrokes as a poem rises from the words. The meaning comes later. (Joan Miro)

You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget. (Eight-year-old)

I certainly do not begin with any meaning. It is as though my hands do all the thinking. (Quentin Bell)
